A map template is basically a map file (.mxd) in which new maps can be created easily. Map templates save time and money by allowing users to quickly reproduce or create a new map with similar content. These maps can be used for a variety of situations, such as driving directions, outdoor activities, real estate planning and business strategy. Map templates to simplify the creation of multiple maps or allow the user to generate new maps with little effort. These tools are extremely helpful when carting or transporting products and information over long distances, such as between continents or in between countries or states.Map template windows are usually hidden when not in use. They can also be maximized to show all map options at once or divided into several panes for greater visibility. To change the appearance of the map, click on the "Map" option in the main map menu, or use the " Edit "button" to open a map form in a new form. In addition to changing the appearance of the map, you can also switch between visual basic and custom maps and switch back and forth between land and water. This saves the user considerable time and effort, as it is typically faster to move between visual basic maps in different views than it is to switch between a selection of custom maps in many different views.Most map template systems include both the lat and long forms of your maps, although some may have only the lat and long of the map in one file. Some map callout systems allow only one view of a map while others provide several different views of the same map. For example, the Microsoft Quick reaction Map Viewer has different views depending on the device that is used to view the maps. The Map Symbol button allows the user to switch to a map callout template that is based on one of the predefined maps.As soon as you save the selected maps in a certain format, such as PDF, there is a new map template window located on the left-hand side of the screen. Choose the desired map template from the drop down menu. Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, drag the map templates to the desired location on the page. In addition to the two selections above, you may also choose to duplicate one of the maps, edit its attributes such as its name and lat and long coordinates, and/or change its appearance. When you drag a map template over a blank section of the page, the corresponding map appears. You may also click on any other map elements on the page for details on those elements.To open a new map template dialog, click on "Map" within the map template organizer and select "New". In the new map template dialog, enter the desired map and click on "Open". In addition to the map template, select "Content Maps" from the drop down menu. A new list of maps is usually displayed.In earlier versions of OS X, there was only a single map templates map callout window. You could choose between various templates, for example, you could select a city or a state. Now you can select any number of cities or states for the map callout and this allows you to have multiple map templates for different uses. You could create a quick and easy presentation or you could create a more sophisticated map template that is more complex.Creating Maps using OS X Mountain Dock: When you select "Map" from the menu, you will then see a page with four panes, namely "North", "South", "West", and "East". Using the arrow keys on your keyboard, you'll move the cursor over one of the panes and a selection rectangle appears. Right-click on the selection rectangle to display a menu. Select "Add Map Document" from the menu and choose your market. A map template will be created and placed onto your main view in the map document's folder.Map Templates are useful in a number of situations. If you're creating a presentation, you will be able to select the appropriate map templates and have them automatically created for you when you save your document or view it in the map browser.
